By federal law, we may not require applicants to provide SSNs, nor may we deny an applicant who does not have a SSN. However, for a variety of reasons, including financial aid, billing, and document processing, we will make every effort to obtain a student's SSN before processing their application.
Students who cannot or do not provide a SSN on their application will be required to complete a paper application instead of an online application.
If a student who is a US citizen does not provide their SSN on their application, we will contact them to get their SSN. If they still wish to withhold their SSN, they will be required to submit a copy of their birth certificate before their application is processed. This process allows us to confirm their identity.
If an international or undocumented student submits an application and they have no SSN to provide, a combination of documents, approved by either Jill Melones or Calley Stevens Taylor, can be submitted to confirm the student's identity.
When we process an application without a SSN, the student's SSN in Datatel will be entered using the system-assigned RACC ID number plus two leading zeros. Should the student later provide RACC with their SSN, their records will be merged and refiled under their SSN.
