Math Pre-requisite Pilot

Diane Hollister has run statistics that show that students' academic performance in MAT 030 is not a significant predictor of their performance in MAT 150 or 210. As a result, she has proposed a temporary change to the pre-reqs to MAT 150 and 210 that allow students to register after taking or placeing out of MAT 020 only.

Proposal:
If a student has either

• successfully completed Mat 020 OR
• placed into 030 on the placement test AND has a major that otherwise would not require Algebra (i.e., does not need chemistry)

Diane is willing to waive 030 for them and let them enroll in MAT 150 or 210 for fall. The student will need to see Diane Hollister for the waiver. They need to understand that if they will need 155 or change their major or whatever, they will HAVE to go back and take 030. In fact, they will sign a waiver sheet stating that.
