Who advisees new students?

I was recently asked this question-

"If a new student has registered for summer, has been assigned a major advisor, and now wants to register for fall, do we see them or should they go to their major advisor?"

After consulting with the chairs, we have decided that all new students should be advised by Enrollment Services until their first semester actually begins, at which point they should transition to their faculty advisor. So, a new fall student who is assigned a major advisor in March after they register for fall should still come to ES for advising until August, then transition to that major advisor.

This will allow new students to continue having 1 point of contact for all of their "new student" business and allow major advisors to focus on students actively enrolled in the current semester.
